"Mining at Katwe Salt Lake, QENP. Uganda" Katwe salt production. Paid a visit to Katwe salt lake this morning and learnt a lot about salt mining at the lake. Lake Katwe is located in Western Uganda, Kasese district- and lies on the bottom of Albertine, the western arm of the Great East African rift valley. The water in this lake is 60% salty. The region is semi-arid and the soil doesn’t favor agricultural activities and therefore the major economic activity here is salt mining. Katwe salt industry is the main source
Birding Mubwindi Swamp Trail
We went birding today along the Mubwindi swamp trail, found in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable national park. "Mubwindi Swamp" transilates as the "Dark Swamp" and the story by the locals about how this swamp was named Mubwindi, dates way back in the 1920s when one of the local clans in the Kigezi region were relocating from the south-west to the north of Kigezi, passing through the forest. According to the locals, when these people reached that swamp it looked too big for them to cross, but they
