7 Day Rwanda Gorilla & Chimp Trekking Tour

Day 1:  Arrival in Kigali at Kanombe International Airport.

Upon your arrival at Kanombe International Airport in Kigali, you will be met by a representative from Terrain safaris who will welcome you and transfer you to your respective Hotel in Kigali for dinner and overnight stay (Hotel Chezlando/Hotel Mille Collins).

Day 2: Depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park.

After an early morning breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe forest national park en route visiting the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. Drive past green fields of tea scattered on the hillside slopes and the small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest. This drive may take you approximately 6 hours. Dinner and overnight at RDB Gisakura Guest House/Nyungwe Forest Lodge.

Day 3: Nyungwe Forest Guided Canopy nature walk.

Early morning, you will be served breakfast and after transfer for a canopy walk with in the forest. Specifically, the canopy walk is good for birders so as to enable them spot a variety of bird species with in the forest. While enjoying the canopy walk, look out for birds like the Rwenzori Turacco, Black and White Casqued Hornbill and also do not miss spots of large troops of Angola Colobus monkeys. Return to the Guest House or lodge for lunch after which you will go for the afternoon Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest National Park. Dinner and overnight at RDB. Gisakura Guest House/Nyungwe Forest Lodge.

Day 4: Nyungwe NP. – transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

After breakfast at the Guest house or lodge, you will drive back to Kigali. En route you will visit the Botanical Gardens and the cultural museum in Butare. Continue and arrive in Kigali in time for Lunch. After lunch, you will drive northwards to Kinigi via Musanze. En route, the journey offers you beautiful scenery of rolling hills for which the country Rwanda is well known. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.

Day 5: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park.

This will be the highlight of your safari and we start with an early breakfast at your lodge or guest house, you will then head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing from the RDB wardens. After the briefing, you will then head for gorilla trekking with in Volcanoes National Park with the rest of the trackers. Your encounter with these man’s closest shy friends will be a highlight of your Rwanda Safari and the experience you will get this day, will be memorable and your safari will be a once in a life time to remember. Gorilla tracking/trekking can take 2 to 8 hours with in this jungle forest and it depends on the movement of the Gorillas on the previous and that particular day. After tracking, you will retire to your hotel for dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.

Day 6: Visit the Dian Fossy’s grave and research center.

After an early breakfast, you will go to the park offices for briefing, then you can visit the Karisoke Research center which was established by Diane Fossey who was well known as a woman who protected the Mountain Gorillas. The Research center was established for habituation and deeper study of the Mountain Gorillas. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali and departure.

After breakfast at the lodge or guest house, we will transfer you to Kigali city. Upon arrival in the city, you will take a short city tour and visit the genocide memorial sites and the traditional markets with in Kigali, craft shops and so on. Later you will be transferred to the Airport to take your flight back home.
