Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Scenic Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your dedicated representative from Terrain Safaris. Following a gracious meet-and-greet, you will receive a brief orientation outlining the highlights of your upcoming gorilla trekking journey.
You will then embark on a scenic transfer northward to Volcanoes National Park, a journey of approximately two to three hours through Rwanda’s breathtaking countryside. As you travel along winding roads, take in the rolling emerald hills, terraced farmlands, and vibrant rural communities that define Rwanda’s renowned landscape as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”
As you approach the Virunga region, the dramatic silhouettes of the volcanoes rise in the distance, setting a spectacular tone for your adventure ahead. You will arrive in the afternoon at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, a charming lodge nestled at the foothills of the volcanoes.
Upon arrival, enjoy a seamless check-in and take time to relax and unwind in the tranquil surroundings. In the evening, savor a delightful dinner prepared with fresh local ingredients, before retiring for a peaceful overnight stay in preparation for the extraordinary experiences to come.

Day 2. Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes National Park.
Your day begins in the soft light of dawn with an early gourmet breakfast at your lodge, followed by a transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a comprehensive briefing by experienced rangers from the Rwanda Development Board. Here, you will be introduced to the protocols of gorilla trekking, as well as fascinating insights into the behavior, ecology, and conservation of the endangered mountain gorillas.
Accompanied by expert trackers and guides, you will then set out on a once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking adventure into the lush montane forests of Volcanoes National Park. The trek, which typically lasts three to five hours, takes you through dense bamboo forests, mist-covered trails, and dramatic volcanic terrain in search of a habituated gorilla family.
The moment you encounter these magnificent primates is both profound and unforgettable. Observe the gentle interactions within the group – from the commanding presence of the silverback to the playful curiosity of the juveniles – in an intimate and respectful setting that allows for a truly humbling connection with nature.
After your extraordinary experience, you will descend from the forest and return to your lodge, where you can refresh, relax, and reflect on the day’s remarkable encounter. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure, allowing you to unwind in the serene surroundings of the Virunga highlands.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking Experience & Return to Kigali
After an early gourmet breakfast at your lodge, you will once again transfer to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park for a second, equally captivating gorilla trekking experience. Today’s trek will lead you to a different habituated gorilla family, offering a new perspective and further enriching your understanding of these remarkable primates.
Accompanied by expert trackers and guides, you will venture into the forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains, where each trek presents unique terrain, scenery, and gorilla group dynamics. This second encounter provides enhanced viewing and photographic opportunities, allowing you to observe a broader range of behaviors – from nurturing family interactions to the commanding presence of the silverback.
Following this extraordinary experience, you will return to your lodge to refresh and enjoy lunch before beginning your leisurely drive back to Kigali. The scenic journey once again reveals Rwanda’s breathtaking landscapes, with rolling hills and picturesque countryside accompanying you along the way.

Day 4: Kigali Genocide Memorial Visit & Departure
Begin your final day in Rwanda with a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, enjoying a relaxed morning in the heart of Kigali.
Subject to your flight schedule, you may opt to visit the poignant Kigali Genocide Memorial, a place of remembrance and reflection dedicated to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. This thoughtfully curated site offers a profound insight into Rwanda’s history, while also highlighting the nation’s remarkable journey of reconciliation, resilience, and renewal.
Following this meaningful experience, you will return to your hotel or proceed directly to the airport. At the appropriate time, you will be transferred in comfort to Kigali International Airport, where you will receive assistance with check-in and departure formalities.
