The Natural Gifts Of Uganda
Given the wildlife, mountains, flora and fauna, we believe that Uganda is the “Pearl of Africa”.
Most people ask questions like,
Is Uganda actually safe for travelers?
How many wild animals are in Uganda?
How populous is Uganda?
Are there tigers in Uganda?
What is the national animal of Uganda and how does it look like? It’s the “Kob”
An introduction to Uganda; It’s necessary for you to know that Uganda is a landlocked country that is made up of savannas grassland & woodland, volcanic mountains, tropical forests and fresh water & crater lakes. The endangered mountain gorillas reside in Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga national parks respectively, in the south-western corner of Uganda. The country is also known for its tea, sugar, tobacco, bananas, cocoa and cotton production. The climate is tropical, and there are two dry seasons that run from December to February and again in June through August and June, July and August is the tourism peak season in Uganda. For those who haven’t had any experience in Uganda still don’t believe that Uganda is a safe country for travelers and when they see a friend or a relative going for safari to Uganda, what flashes into their minds is the atrocities we had in the 1970s, when Idi Amin Dada was the president of this country. But for your information this country was transformed in the 1980s when Amin was overthrown and from then up to now, under the leadership of president Museven, the image of this country changed and actually now Uganda is one of the safest, stable and secure countries in Africa. Kampala is one of the safest capitals in Africa and over 99% of tourists/visitors come to Uganda, do their activities and leave safely. I know that now some of you are pleasantly surprised, but these are the facts.
Before we go any further, the one answer to all those questions is one.
There is naturally a variety of wildlife, flora & fauna found within deferent regions of the country, more than 1000 bird species and more than 340 mammal species found in deferent conservation areas in Uganda. More than half of the world’s remaining endangered mountain gorillas, are found in Bwindi national park and the rest of the population is found in the Virunga massive, which is shared by three countries; Uganda, Congo and Rwanda. Also some people ask if we have tigers in Uganda or not. Well, considering the cat family animals we all know that tigers are some of the big cat animals. Among the big cat family found in Uganda and probably the most eye catching in the cats family that we have in Uganda are the cheetahs, lions and leopards.
Looking further more in Uganda’s safari experience, the big game that one should expect to encounter in our conservation areas are; lions, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, elephants, hertbeats, hippos, topis, waterbuck and the kobs among others, mostly seen in our conservation areas through games and nature walks. Uganda is one of only the three countries where it’s possible to visit endangered Mountain gorillas and they are the country’s prime tourist attraction. When it comes to tourism product and attractions, I would say that Uganda is fully packaged and Winston Churchill was right to call it the pearl of Africa.
