Incredibly unique crater lakes

Uganda, specifically the western side is home to some of the  the explosion crater lakes and explosion craters found along the crater Lake trail which takes in Kibale forest Park, Queen Elizabeth park and the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. Pristine Crater Lakes in the heart of Uganda can be seen from one of the great crater lake lodges that are found here. There are a number of activities along the crater lake trail including chimpanzee trekking, birding, wildlife game drives, hiking, biking, caving, swimming, fishing and so much more.You will enjoy the explosion crater lakes and explosion craters while on a Uganda safari with us on the crater lake trail.

These crater lakes were formed rather recent in the light of ancient volcanic activity in Uganda. Today they are seen as unique, but when they exploded they caused tremendous damage in their time covering a large area. During the formation, they blow out ash and rocks a distance farther away and today they are filled with water thus creating the lakes that look so beautiful, people do swimming is some these, some are surrounded by forest and so you can easily spot some monkeys while there, there are resident birds for the those that love birds and in additional to that their water has a little bit of sulphur smell in it.   In the case of the Ugandan explosion craters, they reduced Lake Edward to a toxic mess.

These crater lakes include;

Ndali kasenda crater lakes

According to local legend, these were created by Ndawula, the first bacwezi king but romantically the craters were formed by immerse volcanic and geological forces that have molded the western Uganda land scape from the albertine rift to the virunga mountains.These are grouped into four: the kasenda cluster to the west of kibale forest national park, katwe cluster in part of the rift valley protected within Queen Elizabeth national park, and the bunyaruguru cluster.

Lake nyabikere

These are very attractive once one decides to take a walk. The walk takes about 2 hours and on the way, a visitor may see lakes Nyamirima, Nyinabulita. There are great views over the Crater Lake region from mpurumu hill. Other lakes include kabata, Lake Kifuruka campsite, lake nyinambuga, lake lyantonde, Lake Mwitampungu lake lukwanzi, lake mwamba, lake lugembe and Lake Kanyango among others.

Lake Nkaruba

This is  beautifully enclosed by a steep forest- lined crater lake in which red tailed monkey, red colobus and the black and white colubus are resident together with other species of birds. Based on Lake Nkaruba one is in position to explore to see a couple of lakes nearby like Nyahirya and Nyanswiga.

Some lodges a visitor would consider romantic offer splendid views and the best choices of crater lake trail in Uganda. These vary from up market and budget lodges. Examples include chimpanzee guest house, Ndali lodge, Lake Nyinabulitwa resort, among others.
