Budongo Royal Mile is a birders’ paradise, offering good birding opportunities. On this 16 day birding and wildlife safari we also happened to go birding in the Royal Mile, found in the south-western part of Budongo forest. Budongo is a tropical rain forest in the north-eastern Uganda and part of it is protected by Murchison Falls national park. It is believed to be one of Uganda’s birding hot spots, protecting close to 400 bird species. It is a special birding area being home to some of the rear species, some of which are confined to only 2 places, Budongo forest and Semliki forest national park. Give it a try one day and enjoy some of the specialties that include; Ituri Batis, Blue-breasted, Chocolate-backed and African Dwarf Kingfisher, Nahan’s Francolin, White-thighed Hornbill, the Yellow and Grey Longbill, Chestnut-capped, Yellow-footed and Forest Flycatcher, Yellow-crested and Brown-eared Woodpecker, Rufous-crowned Eramomela, Forest Robin, Pale-breasted, Brown and Puvel’s Illadopsis, .
Also the Yellow-browed Camaroptera, Lemon-bellied and Green Crombec, Western Black-headed Oriel, African Crowned Eagle, Hairy-breasted, Yellow-spotted and Yellow-billed Barbet, White-thighed and Black & White-Casqued Hornbill, Jameson’s and Chestnut Wattle-Eye, Sabine’s and Cassin’s Spain-tail among others
