Hiking Sabyinyo Gorge

Climbing sabyinyo extinct volcano is done in south western Uganda and consists of 3 peaks namely; Muhavura volcano, Gahinga volcano and Sabinyo gorge. Sabyinyo has three peaks and therefore to hike it one has to be fit.  This hike takes us through muddy trails often on wooden ladders with clearing clouds as you get to the beautiful view of Rwanda and democratic republic of Congo. It meanders through a very dense forest mainly African montane in Mgahinga National Park. The hike involves walking straight high up the mountain without going through it. The views and challenges make it an amazing experience for adventurers. This hike usually takes about 5-6 hours a bit hard to hike but gets interesting when tourists get to meet primates like the golden monkey, antelopes and many other mammals. A hike to sabyinyo gorge gives tourists a chance for bird watching since it is a great destination for birding plus Rugezi swamp. The commonest is Ruwenzori Turaco a stunning bird which is also endemic to the Albertine rift region. Hiking activity sets off from the park office after meeting with and briefing by the ranger guide. Walking sticks are provided for free while porters are available for hire.
