- Horseback Ride
This fun rewarding activity shouldn’t be missed by tourists / travellers in Lake Mburo national park. This 2 hours activity gives you the opportunity to see zebras, gazelles, buffalos and other amazing wildlife plus the beautiful landscape. The horses are very well trained and maintained by their German owners.
- Shoe bill stock Safari
The shoe bill stock is a spectacular and endangered bird, and Uganda is one of the few countries where you can find it in the wild. Many birders come to Uganda and the shoe bill is always high on their list. Even those not normally excited by bird life don’t want to miss out on spotting this ancient-looking bird. Mabamba swamp in Uganda is a good spot for sighting the shoe bill. There is no place in the world where you can spot it in the wild.
- Semiliki National Park
Semiliki National Park sprawls across the floor of the Semiliki Valley on the remote, western side of the Rwenzori. The park is dominated by the easternmost extension of the great Ituri Forest of the Congo Basin. This is one of Africa’s most ancient and bio-diverse forests; one of the few to survive the last ice age, 12-18,000 years ago. The park has wonderful scenery and a home to a good number of mammals and different species of birds. The park covers a remarkably varied habitat: hot springs, swamps, grassy woodlands and small plains. In addition to adventure trekking, activities in Semiliki include fishing along one of the park’s many waterways, bird watching and visiting the Batwa (pygmy) tribes.
- Visit the Karamojong region
Karamoja is definitely off the beaten tourist track for many. They are a people who are Proud of their traditional way of life as semi-nomadic herders. They are believed to be related to the Masai in Kenya since they live and dress similarly though hardly visited by tourists. Once you are in this region you will know the Karamojong people and their culture plus the amazing wildlife. Additionally you can visit Pian Upe game reserve where Karamojong live in a beautiful setting of savanna and in bomas together with their cattle with spectacular views of mountains.
- Kidepo valley national park
Kidepo is Uganda’s most isolated national park, but the few who make the long journey north through the wild frontier region of Karamoja would agree that it is also the most magnificent.
Kidepo ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses. From Apoka, in the heart of the park, a Savannah landscape extends far beyond the gazetted area, towards horizons outlined by distant mountain ranges away from the crowds and off the beaten track on roads less travelled. You will be amazed by what awaits you. Activities include, hike on a long dry river, game drives, a night in a camp- hearing a roar of a lion and the trumpet of an elephant. You will have a good chance of being visited by lions and jackals. Kidepo is definitely the best-kept secret in Uganda! It was even been rated 3rd-best National Park in Africa by CNN.
- Rock Climbing and Abseiling in Sipi Falls
On the foot of mountain Elgon is the magnificent Sipi falls. It is a paradise of flora, birds, waterfalls and creeks. Rob’s Rolling Rock offers abseiling next to the 100 meter high Sipi Falls and well secured rock climbing at the foothills of Mt. Elgon. Climbing on nearby crags can be arranged. All activities are conducted by trained staff. Climbing or abseiling from a 100 meters high waterfall is a memorable experience.
- Chimpanzee habituation in Kibale forest
Chimpanzee Habituation Uganda in Kibale National Park is a unique and lifetime experience. It allows researchers and habituators spend time (full day) with the chimpanzees in their natural environment. These close relatives of ours are amazing to look at. Once you have an encounter with them you will see how they feed, interact and use loud vocalization and drumming on large tree buttresses as a means of communicating with the other members of their group. You will see the young ones swinging from one branch to another and how they steadily pose for photographs. This is really interesting.
- Kibiro fishing village and salt garden
Kibiro salt processing village is located along the eastern shore of Lake Albert about 22 km from Hoima town and is definitely off the beaten track because of the steep hike down the western rift valley escarpment. Archaeological evidence suggests that salt-making at Kibiro, has been practiced for about 700–800 years. Kibiro village is a sandy beach along Lake Albert where food does not grow. The Kibiro populations therefore have depended for its live hood on the exchange of salt and fish for food through time with farming communities on the plateau above the Ugandan side of the Western Rift Valley. The village therefore forms an important cultural site which has combined both archaeology and ethnography through time in the production of ash salt. What’s amazing is how people live in such conditions, isolated away from roads.
- Hike to sabyinyo gorge
The hike to Sabyinyo’s lush gorge gives tourists the opportunity to see thick wet vegetation and a beautiful moss-lined stream. At the end of the gorge one finds him/herself looking straight up at the peaks of Mount Sabyinyo with the sounds of a small waterfall. The gorge is a birders haven and a habitat to different species of birds. Look out for the Rwenzori Turaco, duikers, and golden Monkeys.
There are many more off the beaten track areas but a few have been listed. At terrain safaris we make this safari a reality.
